OMG! I’m so excited for this appointment!
See, I’ve been waiting – 9 months, 3 days and 12 hours since I scheduled this appointment.
… not counting the 47 minutes in the waiting room and 12 minutes in the exam room.
Finally, I get to talk to you. I just know you are the one that is going to help me feel better and get my old life back!
Doctor: How are you today? Why are you here today?
Do you mean how am I doing today? Or overall? Should I start from the beginning? (Hmm, should I mention I had reflux as a toddler? Is it important?)
My primary care provider said I should come see you because I have stomach problems but I think…
Doctor: What kind of pain is it? What would you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10? When does it hurt?
Well, it hurts all of the time but especially after I eat.
Doctor: Show me where it hurts?
Sometimes it hurts here but it is hard because it can be in different places too. My mom has been diagnosed with…
Doctor: Well, you are probably constipated. You should eat more fiber and drink plenty of water.
But, I eat fiber and drink water already. My friend has…
Doctor: Probably IBS, you should eat more frequent, smaller meals.
Doctor: It was nice meeting you today. Pick up your after visit summary at the check out desk, down the hall, first room on your right.
There is one more problem I want to talk about…
Doctor: Yes (while pulling door open, half out the door)
I’m so nauseated that I can’t eat. I’ve lost 20 lbs.
Doctor: Um, you’ll have to schedule another appointment to talk about that.
Fighting back tears, I stumble out to my car, vowing never to see another doctor ever!
